Message from the President

With so many changes taking place in health care in general, and for orthotics and prosthetics specifically, it is important to stay informed, both nationally and on the state level. Maintaining O and P facilities has become an increasingly challenging endeavor. Balancing patient care with reimbursement and financial realities requires learning about, understanding and implementing practices that enhance patient care and professionalism.

This year we will address how to provide increasingly relevant and timely information to help you be informed. OOPA will continue to offer an array of top-rated speakers during the Annual Meeting (Friday, March 18, 2022). Let us know if there are particular topics you want to learn more about.

I would like to extend appreciation to Jim Leimkuehler for his excellent leadership during his two-year tenure as President.

As I take the helm, I would like to follow through with the actions that Jim and the board have already put in motion.  Jim has spent a lot of time and effort to pursue the betterment of the O and P field and I would like to thank him for all of his work.

In the next year I would like to increase the awareness of the different organizations that are dedicated the education and protection of our O and P field.  I truly feel like we are in a good position moving forward with this new State board we are now a part of.  I would like to continue to foster the relationship between the OT/PT/AT board and ourselves to ensure an open line of communication.

I am honored to try to serve each and every one of you and am excited for what we can do moving forward as a growing and evolving field.

The OOPA BWC Committee has continued to meet with Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation work group to address the prosthetic pricing methodology and work toward a policies that will better reflect practitioners’ level of service and patient care needs.

The Ohio OPP Advisory Council, housed with the Ohio OT, PT, AT Board, meets quarterly and is served well by professional representatives who advise the State Board on critical issues. Check the Board's website for updates.

If you are not currently a member I encourage you to join today. Let us know how we can make your association better work for you. Your voice and your participation are critical for us to work on your behalf.  If you would like to serve on a committee or would like membership information please let us know.

Thank you for your past and continuing support.
